Obituary for JAMES P SMITH

James P Smith
May 24, 1944 – December 23, 2018

James P Smith, known as Jim or Jimmy to family and friends, was 74 when he passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at his home in Spring Texas. His wife of 33 years, Janne, was by his side. He fought a hard battle with lung cancer. Earlier this year Jim made the decision to repent and accept everlasting life through Jesus Christ by rededicating his life.
He was born in West Virginia, the oldest son of 11 children to Carless and Margaret Smith. Carless was a coal miner and Margaret was a Mother and homemaker. They both preceded his death as well as 5 of his siblings, Carolene, Norene, Shelia, Roger and Michael. He is survived by his sisters Anna, Irene, Montana, Kathy and his brother Danny.
Jimmy is survived by four loving daughters in Ohio, Tonya Maynard, Tammy Wurm, Tina Smith and Crystal Smith. He was a loving stepfather to Justin and Erica Gonzales, Rachael and Chris Donohoe and Angela Pullin all from Houston, TX. He was a Papa to 17 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Jimmy loved all of his family he had and held them close to his heart.
Jim worked his entire career in the metal building insulation manufacturing industry where he was a production and equipment manager. He had many friends and was highly respected for his ingenuity and abilities to modify equipment and perform to the high demands of the construction industry. He was a strong leader with impeccable work ethics.
After he retired he loved working in the yard and woodworking. He loved his garage and his tools. He had a passion for classic cars. He considered himself a Mopar man and had over 200 cars in his life. In his younger years he loved drag racing on Quigley Ave in Ohio.
In this time of grieving, we look for something bigger than ourselves. Hope found in Christ, that this parting of James is not “Goodbye”, but simply “See you later.” This hope carries his family and friends through this tragedy. Life is precious and far more valuable than society tells us. Let’s join together in celebrating the beautiful life of James Smith and remembering him for who he was, a loving and strong man with a powerful redemption story.
